Safe Home, Healthy Baby

Among parent’s top priorities is always their children’s safety. However, our homes can be full of potential hazards.  To combat this, we educate our clients about these dangers through thorough safety inspections and additional testing.  With this information, you can safeguard your children’s health from the earliest age possible.

Two of the easiest ways to ensure that your home is safe for your newborn are by testing the water and air quality.

The air in our homes can carry elements, such as radon.  Although we don’t hear of Radon every day, it is the second leading cause of lung cancer. One of the most common ways that radon makes its way into homes is through the basement. Homes in the Northeast with pebble or dirt floor basements are particularly susceptible to a radon issue. A common entry point is through well systems. In these systems, the water is designed to come in contact with rock and soil. In some cases, the surrounding earth has trace amounts of these elements and as a result can release radon gas when running a sink or shower.

These radioactive particles, when breathed in, damage the cells lining your lungs. The scariest part about this is that the gas is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. If you and your family are living in a home that is exposing you to high levels, you likely would never know. Our testing comes complete with thorough report, summary, and possible recommendations to ensure clean, fresh air for your baby’s lungs.

Water quality can also be a concern.  Our packages can include testing for bacteria, nitrites/nitrates, and even PFOA/PFOS testing.  Too much bacteria can be an obvious issue, but what about nitrates/nitrites?  Too many nitrates in the water can be harmful for children under the age of 6 months particularly.  An overabundance of nitrates in their bodies can effect the baby’s ability to effectively transport oxygen throughout the body which leads to “Blue Baby Syndrome.” In addition to drinking the water, they are bathed in it, have their clothing washed in it and their bottles cleaned with it. Just like our air quality Radon testing, you will receive a detailed analysis of your water quality with a breakdown of the results.
