Pro Tip #1: Spring Maintenance

Pro Tip #1: Spring Maintenance

With spring officially sprung, the weather is warmer and it’s time to start thinking about summer!  If you’re like me, you probably have a ton of things to do and not enough time to do them all.  It can be easy to let something slide or forget, so we made a quick list of important things to remember to do this spring!

1.)   Annual Attic Check: You are not in this space every day, so it can be easy to forget to check it for leaks or water stains.  Now that spring is here, you might also be in this space if you use it for storage.  As all of the ice and snow melts off of your roof in early spring, any leaks would be active and easy to see. Make sure to check the rafters and roof decking while you are there.   Doing this check annually will allow you to catch a leak as early as possible, so making this a part of your Spring routine is a perfect fit.

2.)   Check Your Gutters for Debris: Sometimes a few leaves that decided to hold on just a bit later into the season finally fall.  Depending on when the gutters were last cleaned, it may be a good idea to evaluate them.  While they are cleaned, it would be best to check for any damage that may have occurred from ice or snow to ensure your drainage is functioning properly.

3.)    Have Your A/C Serviced:  As the year progresses it is smart to have you’re A/C serviced by a professional.  They test for functionality, leakage, proper installation, and can possibly catch a defect before it becomes a greater issue.  A/C’s that are regularly serviced tend to have a longer life than ones that are not serviced by professionals.

4.) Change Your CO and Smoke Detector Batteries: Those pesky detectors and their batteries!  They are easy to forget about, but are an essential safety item.  Some trigger an alert when the battery is low, but it would be safest to change them regularly.  Making this a spring cleaning routine would be a great decision to ensure your family’s safety!

Spring has finally spring! Use some of these tips as you begin your Spring Cleaning routine this year and we are sure you will you be glad you did!
